1. The gospel commands it.
- One of my favorite verses in Scripture is 1 Peter 4:10: “Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God” (CSB).
2. Your discipleship demands it.
- “Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant…” (Philippians 2:5-7, CSB).
3. Your community needs it.
- “Pursue the well-being of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the Lord on its behalf, for when it thrives, you will thrive” (Jeremiah 29:7, CSB).
4. Your connection is better for it.
- Through congregational survey, conducted over several years, a consistent pattern has emerged:
- Volunteering is pivotal in determining whether individuals feel fully integrated into the church community. Notably, consistent worship attendance and small group participation, although important and desirable respectively, do not have the same level of impact. It is serving, above all else, that fosters a sense of full engagement with the church
